Job summary/Role description

Prepare assigned technical documentation (of varying technical complexity, depending on skills and experience), such as basic design of electrical systems (Transformation, Distribution, Lighting, Electrical Protection), Instrumentation (Fire & Gas Detection, Telecom, Monitoring and Regulation), and Automation (particularly, but not limited to, HVAC systems), as well as the technical management of building components and systems under the supervision of the Building Design Project Leader or Building Electrical & Instrumentation Specialist, ensuring quality while adhering to the assigned timeframe and budget.

 

 

Duties and responsibilities

Following the guidelines provided by the Manager, the Building Electrical & Instrumentation Systems Engineer has the following main responsibilities:

  • Perform the design of electrical, instrumentation, and automation systems serving residential and industrial buildings, such as drafting specifications and/or reports, performing calculations, and managing the technical procurement of assigned components and systems, according to the instructions of more senior figures and coordinating with other disciplines.

  • Ensure the quality of the documentation produced and its compliance with the contractual requirements of the assigned project, in compliance with the schedule and company standards.

  • Verify and comment on documents produced by vendors and subcontractors during project development.

  • Interact with other disciplines to acquire useful information for the design of electrical, instrumentation, and automation systems serving residential and industrial buildings and collaborate on integrated and interdisciplinary design activities.

  • Collaborate, within the assigned discipline, on the integrated 3D modeling of the building developed using BIM methodology.

  • Collaborate in activities related to work quantity estimation and the preparation of the necessary technical documentation for both project procurement and system implementation.

  • Assist the Building Design Project Leader in preparing the technical documentation required in the Materials Request for Electrical and Instrumentation systems, in accordance with project requirements.

  • Follow the development of supplies for Electrical and Instrumentation systems.

  • Support, where requested, the estimation and quantification activities associated with Electrical and Instrumentation systems, under the responsibility of the Materials & Work Quantities Estimating & Management group.

  • Assist the functions responsible for construction testing and commissioning activities, based on project requests and needs.

  • Participate, alongside or temporarily replacing the Specialist, in factory testing activities for Electrical and Instrumentation systems, in close collaboration with the Testing department, as well as in installation, commissioning, and site acceptance testing activities.

  • Assist the Group Leader or Department Manager in ensuring the application and ongoing updating of the relevant standards, procedures, and work instructions.

  • Participate in technical training and share experience with other colleagues regarding design techniques.

  • Stay abreast of technical innovations specific to their discipline, monitoring the market for state-of-the-art developments and providing technical and commercial assessments of new products, technologies, work cycles, applications, etc., as requested.

 

 

Person Specification

Knowledge & Qualifications

  • University degree/ diploma in Electrical Engineering/Instrumentation/Electronics Engineering or relevant field.

Experience

  • Candidates must possess a minimum of 10 years’ relevant construction experience including exposure to electrical, instrumentation or building systems engineering in EPC or industrial project environments.
